Happy new year everyone. I pray this year favours us. I honestly can’t believe we are in 2020🤭 but where are the flying cars though🤷🏽♀️?
One thing I have noticed is, people are quick to put others down when they say, “ new year, new me”. They downplay the new year and imply that it is just another day and nothing has changed significantly . This isn’t fair, if you are not big on the new year, new me concept, mind your business and let people renew, reboot and refresh in peace. Sometimes, people need a fresh start, the new year presents a clean slate to do things better and try out new things. Whether we want to admit it or not, something great has indeed happened; a calendar year has been completed. If your goals were met or not within that year, good for you. Time has passed by, and you will never get the previous year back.
Personally, I look forward to the new year. I love new beginnings, it renews my hope, dreams, goals and I feel energised and awakened. I set new goals every year, some goals are from the previous year that I didn’t meet. A common practice for me at the end of every year, is to reflect and strategize for the new year. I always have these amazing plans, ideas and end up abandoning them after a couple of weeks. I know a lot people experience this too. This is why we have to do things a little differently. New year, new me should now be slightly upgraded to new year, new approach aka lifestyle change. For instance, one of my goals is to read more books. Years ago, I used to be an avid reader but stopped reading. I have been trying to get back to reading but failing. This year, I have the same goal with a different approach. The target is to read at least one book per month, I have decided to read one chapter per day. If the chapter is too long then the plan is to set aside three days reading that chapter. What I have done here is; I devised a realistic time frame to help me achieve this goal. It might be too simplistic but I will build up from there. The key is to be intentional about every goal and break it down to its simplest form; this way we are not overwhelmed.

As the year progresses, you might find the need to reinvent yourself, you should act on it and develop your ideas. I am an advocate for starting projects or developing ideas at any time of the year also. Think about it, what are you waiting for? However, I will never put anybody down for deciding to wait till the new year. I strongly believe that people should do whatever they want, how they want as long they are not disturbing anyone.

New year, new me will not make any sense if we are not consistent and disciplined. If your goal is to save more money, or build your muscles or learn a new skill, just be consistent and put in the effort, and there is a likelihood that you would turn out successful. I need to start practising my pep talks. I really hope, we find realistic and useful ways to achieve all the goals that have been set for the year.
Thank you for reading, please share the post with friends, family, colleagues and everyone. Don’t forget to leave a comment too😬. See you all next week.
